In OneSearch you may see links labelled PDF via Open Access. These provide free, legal PDF copies of journal articles.
What is Unpaywall?
Unpaywall is one of the largest sources of Open Access material, with content from over 50,000 journals and research repositories. Normally it works as a browser extension, but in OneSearch it is built in.
This means:
- You can access PDF copies of journal articles directly from your search results.
- No login is required.
- All content is free to read and legally provided.
Important to note:
In some cases, only part of the content may be available (e.g. a sample chapter or abstract), or the website where the research is stored may ask you to request access from the author.
How to use it:
- When searching in OneSearch, look for the link labelled PDF via Open Access to open the article.
- You can also use the filter under Database and tick Unpaywall to refine your search to Open Access results only.
